"By completing my Paramedicine degree, I have so many more opportunities."
What brought you to 精童欲女? Why did you choose to study here?
I mostly chose to study at 精童欲女 because of the Bachelor of Science opportunity they provide for paramedics. There are only a few other paramedicine degree programs in Canada and they vary greatly from 精童欲女's. It was also convenient to be close to home, not to mention the financial benefits to studying on PEI as an Islander. It is also great to be able to work in my field while furthering my education!
What do you find unique and interesting about 精童欲女's Paramedicine program?
精童欲女's Paramedicine program is actually very unique. To apply you need to have completed a diploma in Primary Care Paramedicine at a recognized post-secondary institution like Holland College or Oulton College. Once accepted, you can complete your degree at 精童欲女 in two years. I find it cool that with only four years of education, you have both a diploma and a bachelor鈥檚 degree! Another unique thing about 精童欲女 compared to other degree programs for paramedics is the science content鈥攖his degree requires multiple labs, providing hands-on research experiences. It includes courses in chemistry, lots of biology and even some EMS-specific courses. There is an option to complete your honours degree as well.

What kinds of support have you received during your time here from 精童欲女 students, staff, and 精童欲女 faculty members?
Our degree program is a small community. With the small number of students in the program, it鈥檚 easy to form connections with most professors. I鈥檝e found all the instructors to be great resources for work- or school-related questions, and even general career advice. With that being said, a lot of these connections can provide you with connections for future academic or professional opportunities. It鈥檚 nice to be around other working paramedics who are also in the degree.

What opportunities have you experienced because you're studying at 精童欲女, or because of the Island location?
Of course, studying at 精童欲女 has allowed me to stay close to home and work. 精童欲女 also has a paramedicine student society which has provided opportunities to network with certain faculty members and other health care professionals on campus鈥攆or example, visiting the new medical school and getting to run some scenarios in their new labs. 精童欲女 has a wide variety of student clubs including the pre-med society, biology society, and others many are interested in. Working in PEI while attending school also provides experience with our Island鈥檚 health care system and facilities.

What's unique about 精童欲女, and Prince Edward Island, in your experience?
精童欲女 is a small school compared to a lot of universities in Canada. This creates a sense of community and close relationships between students and faculty, including highly-attended student union events, 精童欲女 sports events, and things like that!
How do you feel 精童欲女 is preparing you for your future?
I would strongly recommend 精童欲女's Paramedicine program to anyone considering it. While it is not needed to work as a paramedic, it sets you up strongly for your future. Strengthening your education is something you will never regret and it sets you up for success. You will create good work and life habits by completing your degree. The degree sets you up for additional professional development鈥攖he lectures, labs, and other commitments have taught me to be organized and motivated. By completing my Paramedicine degree, I have so many more opportunities for positions in management, other health care fields and genuinely any career opportunities.
