Gateway Program
The Gateway Program supports students as they adjust to university, develop effective academic habits, and connect with people and resources across 精童欲女. Through small-group tutorials, one-on-one peer mentoring, and support from the Gateway Program and Transitions Coordinator, students receive practical guidance for navigating their first year.
Students participate in Gateway through one of two pathways:
- required participation as a condition of admission
- voluntary participation for students seeking additional support
Required Gateway participation
Applicants entering 精童欲女 directly from high school with an academic admission average of 65% to 69.9%, or an International Baccalaureate score of 22 or 23, are required to participate in the Gateway Program as a condition of admission.
Before receiving a conditional Gateway offer, students must complete an orientation meeting with the Gateway Program and Transitions Coordinator. This meeting introduces the program, explains participation expectations, and gives students an opportunity to ask questions.
After the orientation meeting:
- Admissions issues the conditional Gateway offer.
- The student pays the required tuition deposit.
- The student registers for courses through My精童欲女.
Gateway students may take up to three academic courses per semester during their first academic year (in addition to the Gateway Tutorial) towards the program they were accepted into. At 精童欲女, three courses per semester is considered a full-time course load.
What required participation includes
Gateway is a full-year program. Required participants complete:
- a weekly 50-minute small-group tutorial
- a weekly 60-minute one-on-one meeting with a peer mentor
- occasional check-ins with the Gateway Program and Transitions Coordinator
- a reflection at the end of both the fall and winter semesters
Tutorials and mentoring sessions help students:
- adjust to university expectations
- develop study, planning, and time-management strategies
- identify goals and practical next steps
- learn how to navigate 精童欲女 systems and services
- connect with campus resources
- ask questions and seek support early
Peer mentors provide practical guidance based on their experience as 精童欲女 students. They help students work through challenges, explore strategies, and connect with appropriate university services when specialized support is needed.
Successfully completing Gateway
Students must attend at least 60% of required Gateway programming to successfully complete the program.
Required students who meet the program requirements receive priority registration when registering for their second-year courses.
Gateway participants remain subject to the same academic regulations as other 精童欲女 students.
Voluntary participation
精童欲女 students may also participate voluntarily if they would benefit from additional support, particularly during their first year.
Depending on their needs, voluntary participants may request one or more of the following:
- weekly one-on-one meetings with a peer mentor
- Gateway tutorial
- one-on-one support from the Gateway Program and Transitions Coordinator
Voluntary participation is available on a first-come, first-served basis while program capacity remains. Interested students must meet with the Gateway Program and Transitions Coordinator for an introductory meeting to discuss available programming and determine which supports may be most helpful.
