$17.00 per hour, plus 4% vacation pay

The ¾«Í¯ÓûÅ® has a vibrant conference and accommodations operation during the summer months, and we would like you to be part of it! From May through August, we open our doors to thousands of visitors from all around the world. Our residences turn into a bustling hotel operation, which provides accommodation and services for a wide variety of conferences, tourists, and sporting groups. We also offer meeting space to various groups from on- and off-campus. We strive to provide high-quality customer service to our guests while proudly representing our university, our city and our island.

Student Summer Room Attendants are the heart of our operation, ensuring guest rooms are clean and comfortable for every stay.

We are looking for energetic, detail-oriented individuals to join our team as Student Summer Room Attendants. You will be part of a larger team that knows how to have fun, work hard, take pride in their work, and provide great customer service.

Up to 40 student positions will be available beginning in April and continuing through early September. Positions may be part-time or full-time, depending on operational needs and availability.

Conference Services Staff are eligible for: 

  • Discounted rate on student summer accommodation at Blanchard Hall
  • 20% discount at the ¾«Í¯ÓûÅ® Bookstore

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reporting to the Housekeeping Supervisor, the Student Summer Room Attendants will be responsible for:

  • Conducting deep cleaning of rooms at the start and end of the summer season
  • Ensuring the cleanliness of guest rooms, staff areas, housekeeping equipment and supplies in accordance with departmental standards
    o    Making beds, changing sheets and towels
    o    Cleaning washrooms, including showers/bathtubs, sinks, bathroom fixtures, mirrors and floors, etc.
    o    Vacuuming floors, draperies and upholstered furniture
    o    Dusting of furniture and fixtures
    o    Sort and remove waste and recycling from guest rooms, following established procedures
    o    Ensure rooms are properly stocked with linens and other amenities
  • Performing laundry services, ensuring proper inventory management and organization of linens and supplies
  • Reporting all concerns related to room maintenance, security, and health and safety  
  • Guardianship of guests’ personal items in accordance with departmental policies
  • Responding to guest requests with professionalism and confidentiality
  • Collaborating with team members with respect and integrity
  • Additional duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be a current ¾«Í¯ÓûÅ® student
  • Previous experience in housekeeping or a related role within the tourism/hospitality industry is an asset
  • Ability to perform the physical demands of the role, including standing, sweeping, pushing/pulling carts, walking on uneven surfaces, reaching both above and below shoulder level, able to lift up to 25 lbs, etc.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to read, write, and speak English fluently in order to understand verbal instructions, interpret work orders, and collaborate effectively with team members
  • Responsible handling of commercial cleaning equipment and products (WHMIS training will be provided)
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Strong attention to detail and committed to maintaining high standards of cleanliness
  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including weekdays, weekends, holidays, and possibly some late evening shifts
  • Current First Aid Certificate is considered an asset

Priority will be given to ¾«Í¯ÓûÅ® students in accordance with Recruitment, Selection, Hiring and Employment Policies and the Procedures manual.
