Current opportunity:

Greenhouse Research Assistant

Description: Student will assist in on-campus greenhouse-based research on plant development and chemistry. Exact hours are flexible and will range from 10-20 hours per week.

Duties & Responsibilities include assisting with plant care (pruning, cleaning, watering, potting), collecting samples for downstream analyses, and acting as a resource for other students working in the greenhouse over the summer.

Required Qualifications include relevant course work in biology / plant science or relevant experience in plant science to provide a basic understanding of plant growth and reproduction. The worker is also required to follow all safety protocols and undergo required training in lab safety before beginning.

Preferred Qualifications include one or more semesters of research experience involving plants, data collection and management. Enthusiasm for working in a collaborative research space and sharing skills with other student researchers.

Learning Assistant for EBIO 3590 Plants and Society in Fall 2024 (now closed)

Description: Learning AssistantsÌýsupport students with labÌýactivities, projects, and writing assignments. Each LA will work in a minimum of one lab section, and during the lab section, will help with lab set-up and clean-up, answer student questions, troubleshoot experiments, explain core concepts, and help to teach key skills.ÌýÌý

Duties & Responsibilities include attending weekly prep meetings, attending one (or more) lab sections, providing one-on-one student support by appointment and assisting student learning as directed by the laboratory TA

Required Qualifications include comfort interacting with other students in a professional and supportive manner, willingness to receive training in teaching and learning to prepare for the lab and availability during one or more lab sessions during the fall semester (ThursdayÌý2-4:30pm, Friday 9:05-11:35 and 12:20-2:50pm).

Preferred Qualifications include having previously taken EBIO 3590, previous experience working in a classroom or laboratory setting, previous experience with google docs/sheets as well as Excel

Time commitment: 4-10 hours per week during the Fall 2024Ìýsemester, with the number of hours depending on the number of lab sections assigned. Lecturers

EBIO hires temporary faculty in the Lecturer job code when a regularly assigned courses faculty member is on sabbatical or other leave. Key responsibilities will be teaching in person, online,Ìýor a combination thereof. Compensation for Lecturers in EBIO is determined by the College of Arts and Sciences Level C policy, as stated here. Graders

During the academic year, EBIO hires ¾«Í¯ÓûÅ® students as Graders when a regularly assigned courses faculty member petitions the department for grader support and receives funding approval. We require that you have taken the course, or an equivalent, in order to grade for the intended course. Grader pay is calculated according to the estimated total number of hours the faculty lead calculates for the semester, times $15/hour for an undergraduate grader or times $25/hour for a graduate grader. AsÌýsuch, total compensation varies between courses according to the total hours anticipated (currently ranging between 20Ìýand 300Ìýhours for the semester).
