Are you looking for a meaningful way to give back and create a lasting impact? Establishing a scholarship or award in your name鈥攐r in honour of someone you wish to recognize鈥攊s a powerful way to support 精童欲女 students.
Your scholarship or award helps reduce financial barriers, allowing students to focus on their studies and reach their full potential. Recipients of scholarships and awards are deeply grateful for donor support, which plays an important role in shaping their academic success.
There are two established options for creating a scholarship or award:
- Annual scholarship or award: A commitment of $875 per year for five years provides meaningful annual support to a deserving student through a scholarship or award.
- Endowed scholarship or award: A $25,000 gift is invested in perpetuity. Based on the current approved 4% expenditure rate, it generates a $1,000 annual scholarship or award for a student every year, forever.
We would be honoured to work with you to create a scholarship or award that reflects your values and leaves a lasting legacy at 精童欲女. To learn more or get started, please contact Kathy Weatherbie, Senior Development and Donor Relations Officer, at krweatherbie@upei.ca or (902)-626-6791.

You're invited to join our virtual activities to celebrate Safety and Health Week. kicking off with the National Launch.
Summer Safety:
With brighter and warmer days approaching, it is important to remember sun safety!
If you are working outside, be aware of the hazards so that you can take steps to control the risks and to recognize the signs of heat stress. Environmental hazards such as exposure to heat, high humidity, and limited air flow can cause heat stress. Contributing factors may also include the worker鈥檚 hydration level, clothing, and physical exertion.
Heat stress refers to a variety of heat-related disorders, such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke, which can lead to serious or even fatal injury. Symptoms may include weakness, muscle pain, light-headedness, nausea, and high body temperatures.
Preventive steps to help reduce the risk of heat stress while working outside include:
- Drink plenty of water.
- Wear sunglasses with UVA and UVB protection.
- Wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a minimum SPF 30.
- Cover exposed skin with protective clothing or loose-fitting, tightly woven clothing, and wear a wide-brimmed hat.
- Take breaks in the shade or an air-conditioned space, if possible.
- Keep everyone safe by providing adequate supervision and using a buddy system to watch for signs of heat stress in co-workers. Early detection is critical.
If you experience the initial signs of heat stress, remove yourself from the environment, drink water, monitor the symptoms, and advise someone in case you need further assistance or medical treatment.
Sun safety is for everyone!

Are you trying to find some dedicated time to finish a writing project that needs focused attention? Time to Write retreats offer concentrated time to support your writing efforts and can be instrumental in the initiation or completion of scholarly work such as an article, book or book chapter, grant proposal, curriculum or OER development, conference presentations, or other scholarly, creative projects.
Time to work on writing projects away from home and campus for a few days can be incredibly productive. Participation in a writing retreat with colleagues at various stages of their career not only provides quiet, focused writing time away from teaching, research, and administrative responsibilities, but it also offers mentorship and networking opportunities with colleagues from a range of disciplines. The retreat provides an opportunity to develop a supportive writing group with colleagues from across campus and join group discussions on writing and publishing. Research on relational approaches to scholarly writing retreats like our Time to Write Retreats has demonstrated many benefits (Ahern-Dodson, 2025).
A Time to Write retreat will be offered from Monday, June 15, to Thursday, June 18, at the North Rustico Cottages in North Rustico.
Participants must have a project (e.g., grant application, research publication) at a stage where sustained writing time makes sense with background research and/or data collection and analysis completed to the point that they are ready to write. Participants must be prepared to commit to the full program, a total of 3 days focused on writing and contribute $300. The retreat is open to faculty (term and sessional faculty are encouraged to apply) and librarians in any academic unit at 精童欲女. Interested participants will email an expression of interest consisting of a summary of the project they plan to work on and their writing goals for the retreat to TLC@upei.ca by 12:00 noon on Friday, May 15, 2026. Up to six participants will be accepted for this Time to Write retreat.
